New car buyer’s guide Consumer Reports has taken its ‘Recommended’ rating off of the Tesla Model S over concerns about the cars’ reliability, says the LA Times.

While the car had scored so good on CR’s test that it’d actually “broke” it, it ranked below-average for reliability, according to the consumer guide, based on feedback from some 1,400 Model S owners.

Issues ranged from electric motors that needed to be replaced just a few years into ownership; to charging systems that would no longer charge the battery.

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk responded to the CR rating saying that the problems listed affect only early production cars, and that Model S sedans built more recently should have none of those faults.
