Two pristine single-family-owned Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe and convertible sports cars will cross the block at Gooding & Company’s August 18 and 19 auction, to be held at the Equestrian Center in Pebble Beach, California.

The 1955 300SL Gullwing coupe set for sale was factory-ordered with a unique colour combination of British racing green exterior paint complemented by a tan leather interior—making this original-condition 300SL unique in the world.

The family later ordered the 1957 300SL roadster in a more traditional silver-with-gray interior.

Some sixty years later, the cars are still in their original condition, with only 25,740 kilometers showing on the coupe’s odometer; and some 61,150 kilometers wound on the convertible’s clock.

The cars have been well-maintained by the family, with fresh gasoline in the tanks and “warm batteries” ready to spark up for a drive.

“Today, some 60 years on, it is almost impossible to find another pair of 300SLs still in their original family ownership and unrestored,” said Garth Hammers of Gooding & Company.

The Mercedes duo are set to go on sale with their original sales paperwork included.

Both cars are expected to fetch grand sums, with the coupe and convertible both slated to reach bids of between $1.3 million and $1.7 million CDN each.
