Arnold Schwarzenegger’s love of massive SUVs – e.g. the Hummer – is well-known, but so is his affinity for the environment. No surprise, then, that he’ll shortly be taking delivery of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class converted to run on battery power.

The G350d, converted to electric by Austrian firm Kreisel Electric, uses an 80 kWh battery pack to drive some 300 km (186 miles) per charge; recharging to 80 percent capacity takes just 25 minutes.

The electric motors put out the equivalent of 482 horsepower, propelling the 5,000-lb G-Wagen to 100 km/h from a standing start in just 5.6 seconds.

Schwarzenegger’s commission is a prototype vehicle, so he’ll be giving feedback to Kreisel on his experience driving it around California. Per the video above, it seems like he’s already in love the thing, though.
