Mitsubishi is launching a new crossover at the Geneva Motor Show, and sticking it with an “Eclipse Cross” badge, after the company’s iconic sports coupe.

Much to the chagrin of enthusiasts of the bygone sports car, the new Eclipse Cross is not a sporting machine by any stretch. Instead, it focuses on smooth, curvaceous lines that borrow from the mid-1990’s Eclipse coupe’s design while offering up modern crossover practicality and ride height.

It’s not clear if Mitsubishi plans to re-launch its Eclipse sports coupe, but with the venerable Lancer Evo ceasing production, the Japanese brand appears to have a gaping hole in its portfolio where sports cars used to sit—and in its centennial year, of all years.
