A 30-year-old woman was fined by police under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to use a designated crosswalk after getting hit by a car while jaywalking in Kitchener, Ontario on April 10 around 9 pm, reports CBC News.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the woman came to a stop on the highway and was then rear-ended by another motorist who fled the scene in a white car.

The incident occurred on Ottawa street, just west of Westmount Road in Kitchener.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or have information about the motorist involved in the hit-and-run to contact them.
