Hyundai’s new luxury brand Genesis has hired yet another top vehicle designer, this time snagging Sasha Selipanov, the young artist responsible for the design of the Bugatti Chiron.
Selipanov graduated from the Art Center College of Design in California in 2005 before starting his career at Volkswagen’s design centre in Potsdam, Germany.
After earning his stripes with the VW Group, Selipanov was given the opportunity in 2010 to contribute to the design of the Lamborghini Huracán. He then took over the lead exterior design role at Bugatti in 2014, and headed the French brand’s creative department. He was largely responsible for the exterior design of both the Chiron and Vision Gran Turismo concept.
At 33 years of age, Selipanov will now be joining Genesis as the brand’s chief designer at the Global Genesis Advanced Studio in Germany.
In his new role, Selipanov will be responsible for the design of many future Genesis model lines; the South Korean luxury brand aims to launch six vehicle lines by 2020, including a new BMW 3 Series-fighting G70 model. The fledgling luxury-performance brand also aims to launch two SUVs and a new sports coupe.
After formally joining Genesis in January 2017, Selipanov will report directly to Luc Donckerwolke, head of Genesis Design.
“I am sincerely excited about this opportunity, because it will be a new chapter in my career,” said Selipanov.
“As I have been working with well-established brands so far, Genesis is a new and refreshing a challenge to me. In addition, I am also honored to join this exciting journey, as it is very rare chance to launch a luxury automotive brand and be part of its history.
“With growing expectations and curiosity around Genesis, I cannot wait to contribute my expertise and passion to the brand.”
