General Motors is rumoured to be planning the production and testing of thousands of fully-autonomous Bolt electric vehicles in 2018 in partnership with Lyft ride-sharing services.
Word of GM’s plan to build and test the large fleet of autonomous cars surfaced in a report by Reuters, later covered by Automotive News. The original report cited two undisclosed sources purportedly familiar with the autonomous Bolt fleet plans.
One of the sources stated GM will roll out the AV Bolts across several states via Lyft’s ride-sharing program; the anonymous source also said the automaker has no plans of selling the fully-autonomous Bolts to private citizens during the initial rollout.
Both GM and Lyft declined to comment on the report.
