Car-sharing service car2go will be offering its users access to new Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLA luxury compacts as part of an expansion to its fleet, the Mercedes-Benz-owned company said January 30.

Users in Toronto and Vancouver will be able to borrow the new cars beginning February, before they’re also rolled out to Calgary and Montreal later this year.

Currently, car2go offers users the ability to drive its signature smart fortwo hatchbacks or, in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary, its Mercedes-Benz B 250 4MATIC compacts for a per-minute rental rate equal to about $15 per hour.

The new CLA four-door coupe and GLA five-door SUV, available for the equivalent of $19 per hour, offer car2go users more space and technology than they’ve had access to previously.

Launched in Canada in 2009, car2go counts more than 2.2 million users worldwide, including 800,000 in North America, and 52,000 in Toronto alone.

The car-sharing service differs from others in that it doesn’t require a reservation to be made ahead of time, and that the car need not be returned to the same place it was picked up.
